I'm running the HD muffler on a Highway Hawk drag pipe cut to fit. I like the sound of it better than the SuperTrapp, but with the full diameter head pipe of the HH drag pipe. It does turn color however. It is louder than stock and as the first post said, it is a Federal regulation and almost anything other than stock can earn your a ticket. the stock head pipe is double wall and helps with the noise reduction alot. A stock HD muffler is also quite restricted, I opted for a punched hole maybe 3/8-1/2" in the baffle and I have no performance complaints. My has the white spacer in the orginal position but a different idle/low speed jet the dealer tech installed and idle adjustment cover off. The HD muffler will work on the stock head pipe but needs a slight turn out in the adapter pipe or a longer adapter pipe than I used to keep the exhaust off the rear brake lever. That was why I went to the SuperTrapp at the time. After I got the HH Drag Pipe - it is loud- I decided to try the HD muffler and got the length I needed. It was a easy fit, slid over the head pipe, a bracket was easy to make, and I used the ST heat shield to keep the heat off my pants leg when stopped. It is Hotter than stock when single wall. The HD muffler looks good I think. Someone also suggested a 500cc Royal Enfield muffler should fit and give a traditional single thump sound.

How the folks can tell on your truck w/o a decibel meter and test area I don't know. Used to be the noise level was an average of a 2 way pass under load, as the intake creates alot of noise under load, that is why it is buried under the seat, and has a very specific design bulit into it to hush it some. As it is overall noise a quieter intake and running can allow louder exhaust.
